Colourful, variable according to the light’s incidence, alabaster is, because it is contrary, the ideal vehicle to absorb the drawing of those neat and clear common objects whose profiles are basic and well defined. Too banal, they do not symbolise experiences, mere anonymous companions of everyday life. In a blissful instant, happy coincidence, they reveal to the artist’s eyes their true form, which is also, as Plato taught us, their idea.
